QQ: What is the fastest “0 to global” brand?

dihard:

Basically, what brand (company, product, person, any entity that holds a brand identity) do you think gained awareness the fastest. Reblog your answer, if you’re so inclined. TBC Monday (taking a snowboard trip to Stowe this weekend)

I first thought about consumer product brands. The first thing to pop into my head was Google (because they beat so many other growth records) but they still took three or four years to reach national recognition and didn’t see international brand recognition until probably five or six years after their incarnation.

The next thought I had was YouTube…and I think that’s my answer. But Youtube was still two years from their start (in Feb 2005 according to Wikipedia) to their entrance as a global brand (I’m guessing around early 2007).

There’s got to be a consumer brand that went from 0 to global faster than two years…but I can’t think of it.

Next, let’s move on to people. People will easily beat any consumer brand around as far as 0 to global is concerned. Businesses take time to build - personalities can become infamous in a matter of days. The first thought I had was Monica Lewinsky - and I don’t think there’s a better answer than that. She went from being known by about 150 people (at least according to Dunbar) to the vast majority of the world in the timespan of probably a few days.

Can anyone do better?
